The general election Of Pakistan 2024.

General elections are scheduled to be held in Pakistan on 8 February 2024 to elect the members of the 16th National Assembly. The detailed schedule was announced by Election Commission of Pakistan on 15 December 2023.

The three major parties are Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), led by Gohar Ali Khan, Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML(N)), led by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), led by former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Controversy about schedule.

The scheduled general elections in Pakistan were anticipated to take place within 90 days following the premature dissolution of the National Assembly on August 10, 2023, as advised by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and executed by President Arif Alvi. This timeframe necessitated the elections to occur no later than November 8, 2023. However, the approval of the 2023 digital census results by the Council of Common Interests, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on August 5, 2023, led to a postponement of the elections, with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announcing a new deadline of February 2024 at the latest.

Nonetheless, on September 13, 2023, President Alvi proposed November 6, 2023, as a potential election date to the ECP, recommending that the Supreme Court be consulted for guidance on the official announcement of the election date. Subsequently, on November 2, 2023, the ECP and the President reached an agreement, setting February 8, 2024, as the definitive date for the upcoming general election.
